Spinelli Kilcollin Linked Rings: Review

Spinelli Kilcollin Linked Rings: Review

Price: $$$

Since it was founded in 2010, Spinelli Kilcollin has grown to become an influential luxury jewelry brand. Its jewelry is instantly recognizable because of its unique metal combinations and rebellious aesthetic. I'm a gemologist and jewelry expert and this is my honest review of Spinelli Kilcollin linked rings. I'm focusing on the linked rings, because they are the brand's most famous design. Spinelli Kilcollin linked rings are available in a variety of materials and at a range of price points. However, most of them retail for well over $1,000.

Craftsmanship: great

Spinelli Kilcollin linked rings are beautifully crafted. As a gemologist I have inspected thousands of jewelry items over the years and I appreciate the quality of the brand's craftsmanship. Each piece is made by hand in Los Angeles. The attention to detail and commitment to quality is evident in every piece, resulting in jewelry that is not only elegant and slightly edgy, but also built to last.

Comfort: fair

These linked rings make a bold fashion statement. The jump-rings connecting each band are perfectly round and seamlessly soldered. The only drawback to this construction is that they are bulky. And, mildly uncomfortable. A small price to pay fo a stand out design. I love the fact that Spinelli Kilcollin rings can be worn in a variety of ways to create a personalized and versatile look. I'm not keen on mixing metals, however Spinelli Kilcollin's unusual pairings of 18K gold, sterling silver, diamonds and gemstones are striking--and I'm a fan.

Sustainability: good

Another stand out feature is sustainability. Spinelli Kilcollin utilizes responsibly sourced materials and sustainable production practices to minimize its environmental impact. At least according to the brand's website. I wish there were an audit with detailed metrics to back up these claims. However, they are believable. To begin with, fine jewelry is usually cast in small batches. Gold is a recyclable material, and all diamonds legally imported into the United States have to show proof of origin. Plus the pieces are made in Los Angeles. So Spinelli Kilcollin's claims are believable. This matters to me, because I prioritize the environmental and social impact of my purchases.

Resale value: great

Spinelli Kilcollin is like a fringe rock star gone mainstream. Its stockists include Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Net-a-Porter and Farfetch, among others. However, I personally prefer to shop for jewelry on the secondary market. Spinelli Kilcollin pieces regularly appear on The RealReal and their linked rings list for about 30% off of MSRP. This is an average, and there are certainly outliers, though. Their resale value is high, making Spinelli Kilcollin linked rings a good investment.

Investment: good

Overall, Spinelli Kilcollin is a brand that offers unique fine jewelry that is both stylish and probably sustainable. I appreciate Spinelli Kilcollin's quality craftsmanship and attention to detail. And, I'm not being paid to share this. If you have thousands of dollars worth of disposable income, and want a piece of jewelry that makes a statement, then you can find new Spinelli Kilcollin linked rings here and used pieces here on circular economy.
