Hello and welcome to Mehla Jewels!  My name is Mehla Hicks and I'm a gemologist and jewelry expert on a mission to share my expertise with you. My objective is to educate you about jewelry. I hope to inspire you to curate a jewelry box full of love, beauty and value.

 

As your personal gemologist, I will show you how to make smart jewelry investments, learn the basics of jewelry authentication and transform dated pieces into timeless heirlooms.

 

Mehla Jewels focuses on sharing jewelry purchasing guidelines, styling tips and jewelry authentication practices.

 

On a personal note

My name is Mehla, I am a Texas based mother of two. I have a passion for design and an expertise in jewelry and gemology. My industry knowledge is the product of many years of jewelry authentication, design and manufacturing. I'm excited to share my industry knowledge with you and hope that it serves you well.

 

I began as a sculptor, studying studio art at Bard College. Then I worked for the Guggenheim Museum and quickly found that working in a museum neither paid the bills, nor fulfilled me creatively. So I pivoted. I applied my knowledge of metal work and lost-wax casting (skills that I acquired as an art student) to jewelry production and product development. I went on to work for prominent jewelry houses in New York, including Harry Winston. After following my now husband to Texas In 2018 I earned my G.G. from the Gemological Institute of America. As a gemologist I have spent the past few years authenticating and valuing jewelry and watches for The RealReal. All the while I have designed and manufactured custom jewelry for for friends and friends-of-friends.
